Hi, I am traveling from Fort Wayne, Indiana to Long Island, New York to buy a car – I know – long way for a car, but this is my dream car. Basically, I just need to get out there…I can drive the new car back home.
I have never traveled out east before, and I am looking for the best/cheapest way to get there. I can drive out with a friend, and drive separately back home…I can fly one-way to JFK or ISP…I can take an Amtrak train out there…I can rent a car, etc. etc. There are a lot of options.
What would you recommend is the easiest/cheapest way to get to Long Island? Also, if I arrive at say, Penn Station or JFK Airport, how do I get to the island? Where would I go to find info about taxis, buses, or trains from the Manhattan to Long Island? Is there anyone familiar with NYC that can tell me the most efficient means of getting from the City and/or JFK to Islip on Long Island (buses, trains, etc.)? Thanks so much for your help.
Take Amtrak from Fort Wayne to Penn Station in New York City, where It’s located beneath Madison Square Garden, in Midtown Manhattan then follow signs directly for Long Island Rail Road Trains then take the Ronkonkoma Branch Line to the Central Islip Station with connections to buses and taxicabs.

We currently live on Long Island to be close to family. We are looking to buy a place (and have a baby on the way). We’d love somewhere with natural beauty, good schools, and stores that are not in a strip mall. Young families are also a plus. This is our first home and we cannot afford a super-fancy place on the water.
If you have any suggestions or resources, that would be fantastic.
Thanks!
Hicksville. I’m assuming you’ve heard of it, and don’t think it’s a made up town. Lol.
My mom grew up there, and I have visited about 30 times already. Maybe more. It’s great around there. Good schools, sports, parks, pools, etc.
It’s a great area. I would check it out if I were you.
Good luck, and congratulations on your baby

I ordered a computer part online at www.tigerdirect.com yesterday and today I got confirmation that it shipped. I looked it up on mapquest and it a 15 hour drive form illinois to my home in long island.Since I ordered it todet(june 11) will i get it by friday(June 13) It is shipping UPS Ground. I know UPS has a order tracker but is doens’t update for 24 hours so it wouln’t display my order till tomorrow.
Thanks for your help!!!
You are probably the world’s expert on the specific question you have posed. The only issue I would have as the purchaser would be if "tigerdirect" is a reputable computer vendor? It sounds like there is no problem at this point. Unless your question centers around planning your weekend. Yes, you should have it by Friday.

I am getting ready to graduate from college in NC and my home is NY. I’m trying to decide whether I should move back home or not. On a salary of 40k – 45k would I be able to live comfortably on Long Island with apartments in the range of 1100k to 1400k and everything else needed to live comfortably. If you live in NY and know from experience please help me out, even if you don’t too.
Long Island is east of Manhattan and definitely exists. It is an ISLAND, check the maps if you don’t know. Home to Brooklyn, Queens, Nassau and Suffolk counties. (A little F.Y.I)
on 40 – 45k it would be tough to make it in LI if you’re paying 1,100 – 1,400 for rent. First off, you won’t have that much left over after rent and if you live in LI you’ll need transportation. You know a car can be expensive and if you rely on public trans that get costly too.
I would advise you to look into basement apt. or roommates/parents or find a job that’s going to pay at least 50k and up.

Ok,so my family is thinking about buying a home in Long Island, not really saying yes we will buy a home there just, thinking about it.We want a home there because 1.we have lots of family there and near there 2.we want to live near the Long Island sound. So i was just wondering how much would it cost to buy one, how nice are the houses, and how cheap are the cheapest ones.We don’t have a lot of money but have no trouble paying our bills and buying food. Thank-you to whoever answers!
Any place on Long Island near either shore will cost you bundles (cheapest would run $400k to over 25 million and up). The cheapest areas are not the most desirable ones where you can buy a run down foreclosure home for around 200K-250K in a very nasty neighborhood
Understand, Long Island has THE highest property taxes in the US. I pay well over 12K on a 400K home. I also pay around 6k a year on heating and electric. The only cheap thing we have here is water…around $30 a month.

Does anyone know of any homes that are NOT for sale yet but are about to go on the market in the Carle Place School Dist? We have been looking for over 6 months and none of the current homes are what we are looking for. Pls help.
If you have looked at all the listings in the website-
www.mlsli.com and pulled up Nassau County-Carle Place and not found a listing then look for ALL local garage sales and ask the people running the sale if they know of anyone that wants to sell their house, but hasn’t listed yet.
You can check the web site FOR SALE BY OWNER–(forsalebyowner.com). I assume you want to avoid the real estate commissions.
Marketing yourself can be costly also, and I guess the best way these days is to get those signs printed up (do not write them yourself–they look very unprofessional), that stick in the ground. You have seen them for political candidates, businesses, & open houses. Stick them up with a phone # ( I WOULD SUGGEST NOT YOUR HOME #) and you will get calls. If you do not want a real-estate agent to call you, mention that on your sign. These signs bring in business so Good Luck to you.

Hi im 23 and my fiance is 24 next year we want to buy our first home in long island.or queens area.but we dont know how to get the process started.(paperwork). I would like to know what place can help me purchase a home at a great deal/steal .I.E (mortage, loans etc).it will be apreciated .and whats the lowest down payments for a 2 bedroom or 3 bedroom .
be easy and make sure you get a FIXED mortgage… be married first..
2nd make sure you UNDERSTAND THE TAXES and miscellaneous bills in the area and county…. like water and land taxes and city taxes..
i would suggest rent around that area first… cheap deals go to the local town courts and ask about real estate auction for houses… there are a lot of those lately…………… get all the facts and make a wise choice…
peace,,,

And how much do they get paid? Also, do they get payed more than a nursing homes salary? =] thanku
http://newyork.craigslist.org/que/hea/1339244637.html
I found one job.
They usually get paid minimum wage first year,
and usually up to 11 per hour with experience. [Please note some facilities will pay much more based on circumstances! For instance some spastic foundations will pay up to 16 per hour.]
