The cheapest areas are not the most desirable ones where you can buy a run down foreclosure home for around 200K-250K in a very nasty neighborhood Understand, Long Island has THE highest property taxes in the US. I pay well over 12K on a 400K home. I also pay around 6k a year on heating and electric.
